Presentation Title: Addressing developmental needs in the context of eating disorder treatment for the Child and Youth population
Speakers: Andrew Wallis, Social Worker, Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead & Melanie Dalton, Advanced Psychologist, Queensland Health
Topic: The focus of treatment of FBT and CBT is on directly targeting the symptoms of the eating disorder with the aim of rapid and full illness recovery so that the adolescent can continue with their normal adolescent development trajectory. However, any treatment involving young people will need to take into account the young person’s developmental stage. This C & Y SIG meeting discussed this topic and addressed how the CBT and FBT treatment model attends to this issue. Common challenges that clinicians, families and therapists encounter were also discussed.
This meeting included a 40min presentation by Andrew Wallis and Melanie Dalton, followed by the first general SIG meeting where the needs goals and needs of the newly formed Child & Youth SIG were discussed.
