Clinicians find working with body image with their clients one of the hardest areas and often avoid it. Yet it is very important to clients and if people end their eating disorder treatment still having major body image problems, they are more like to relapse in their eating. This Plenary will address body image from the point of view of the clinician, researcher and lived experience.
Jessica Smith will talk about her own experiences of body image as part of an eating disorder. Jessica works to create much needed awareness within society about the importance of Positive Body Image and was recently awarded “Emerging Leader” at the Australian Government Positive Body Image Awards for her social media campaign; ‘Join The Revolution’. Jessica is the WA representative for The Butterfly Foundation, and works as a health promotion officer and program coordinator at the Australian Medical Association in WA.
