by Professor Janice Russell, physician & psychiatrist, RPA Hospital, Sydney
Janice Russell presents an overview of gastrointestinal features of EDs with the emphasis on constipation and large bowel symptoms, followed by a discussion of management of laxative abuse. Patients with EDs frequently suffer symptoms related to the gut and pelvic floor. They are also likely to be engaging in behaviours which cause or aggravate these symptoms particularly restricting food and/or fluids and purging in its various forms.
