            Eating Disorder Service at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead - two positions


            Clinical Psychologist


            The Department of Psychological Medicine and the Department of Adolescent medicine at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead run an Eating Disorders Treatment Service for young people with anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders. This is a large service, treating patients from all over New South Wales. Inpatient refeeding admissions, outpatient treatment, and an extensive family based treatment program are among the services that are offered. Other services include a family admission program and parent groups.

            The role of the Clinical Psychologist is to provide family based treatment to young people with anorexia nervosa as a member of the Eating Disorders Family-Based Treatment Team. This clinician is also expected to provide consultation liaison services to paediatric inpatients, and clinical services to inpatients and outpatients as directed by the medical team leader, including psychological assessment and therapy and psychometric testing. They will be expected to provide expert clinical psychology consultation to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and to be actively involved in research, publication and training opportunities in the Eating Disorder Service and Psychological Medicine at the Children’s Hospital.

            This clinician will also participate in the Child & Adolescent Telemedicine Psychiatric Outreach Service (CAPTOS) via videoconferencing. They will also be expected to supervise clinical psychology interns on placement in the Department of Psychological Medicine and be responsible for providing both clinical supervision and academic leadership. This staff member would also be expected to participate in research projects run by the Eating Disorders Service at The Children’s Hospital.

            Selection Criteria

            • Minimum 2 year full time equivalent accredited postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology
            • Full Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, and clinical endorsement with the PBA or eligibility to progress to 'Clinical Psychology Registrar' status with PBA.
            • Clinical skills and expertise with mental health problems of children and adolescents including experience in the treatment of eating disorders
            • Experience working with families preferably with family therapy training and/or experience in the Maudsley model of family-based treatment for Anorexia Nervosa
            • Experience with neuropsychological assessment and/or cognitive remediation programs
            • Experience facilitating therapeutic group programs
            • The capacity to be able to work in a multidisciplinary team led by a medical consultant and capable of independent initiation and working in a team
            • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

            Social Worker Level 3

            Eating Disorder Service at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead


            Full Time (Maternity Leave) 12 months

            The Department of Adolescent Medicine and Psychological Medicine at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead (CHW) jointly run the CHW Eating Disorders Service for children and young people. This is a large service, treating patients from all over New South Wales. The service includes inpatient refeeding admissions, outpatient treatment, and an extensive family based treatment program that includes outpatient therapy,

            family admissions and parent groups, as well as education and clinicial supervision to other professionals.

            The Social Worker will be a member of the Eating Disorders Family-Based Treatment Team. In this role therapeutic interventions will be provided based primarily on Maudsley Family-Based Treatment. The Social Worker will also provide individual supportive therapy and other psychological interventions as required to inpatients and outpatients as appropriate. As well as practical assistance to families in the inpatient program of the eating disorder service. They will be expected to be actively involved in clinical audit, quality assurance, research, publication and training opportunities in the Eating Disorders Service at The Children’s Hospital.

            The position is based in the Department of Adolescent Medicine

            Selection Criteria

            1. Qualifications as a Social Worker eligible for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers
            2. Clinical skills and expertise with child and adolescent mental health problems including the treatment of eating disorders
            3. Family therapy training and/or experience working with families
            4. The capacity and openness to work in a range of therapeutic modalities suitable for children and adolescents 
            5. The capacity to be able to work in a multidisciplinary team led by a medical consultant
            6. Capable of both independent initiations and working collaboratively in a team
            7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
