1 BED is a relatively under-researched disorder. There are several areas, particularly related to treatment, in which knowledge is insufficient.
2 Contrary to misconception, BED causes significant emotional distress and is a “serious” psychiatric condition. Individuals with BED report poorer quality of life, poorer perceptions of physical health, and greater emotional distress than the general population.
3 BED is the most common of all eating disorders (EDs). However, individuals with BED often present seeking assistance for weight loss as opposed to binge-eating.
